Petra by boat

Love history. Or just want to see amazing places. Then you shouldn’t miss this trip to Petra, the 2,000-year-old rose-red city hidden in a canyon in Jordan. Built by the ancient Nabateans and added to by the Romans, it lay undiscovered for 1,000 years before being found in 1812. And now you can discover its splendours...

Pick up from your hotel in Sharm el Sheikh in the early morning, then start our journey to Taba, through the Sinai desert between the high mountains of Sinai and the Gulf of Aqaba. Arrive at the dock to take the Ferry boat at 07.30 am, sail across the gulf of Aqaba from Taba to Aqaba - Jordan. We will then drive to Petra by bus which takes approx: 2 hours

We start the tour on foot, though the Siq or the Canyon, a narrow, winding gorge over 1 kilometer in length. beautiful sandstone formations of Petra were once occupied by the Edomites. One of the reasons why Petra was such an attractive site for the Nabateans is its virtual camouflage behind a narrow and easily defensible canyon known as the Siq.

As you come to the end of this beautiful ravine, a very narrow opening offers a peephole to one of the most spectacular sites in Petra - the treasury. Carved out of the side of the sandstone mountain face probably in the first century BC, scholars debate as to it's actual function.

After the visit of the treasury we will visit the Roman theatre which dates back to Byzantine era & the Royal tombs. Not a lot is known about the ancient culture of the Nabateans, except that they were excellent engineers. With amazing skill and craft they built water conservation and irrigation systems and carved their homes, temples and tombs right out of the rocks.

After lunch, we continue our tour to the hill of Al-Habis fort which dates back to Crusaders times, for a breathtaking panoramic view of deep gullies and uniquely colored rock formations.

At the end of the day drive back to Aqaba port and sail back to Taba then by air-conditioned van back to Sharm el Sheikh. Transfer to your hotel .
